A guide to flat lash extensions

Flat lash extensions are trending right now, and are very popular, and that’s because it's difficult to say what makes the flat lash stand out! Flat lashes come in a wide collection of curls, and they can be the ideal lashes for any eye shape and style. Regular lashes are pretty much the same as well.

The difference between them is in the base. The base of flat lashes is, as the name suggests, flattened, in turn making the lash itself super soft and lighter. And that, in a nutshell, is what makes them so gorgeous.

Flat, superflat and classic lashes

Flat lashes are more suitable for a classic lash set, but they are perfect if what you want are fuller-looking lashes that are lightweight. Lightweight lashes are great for natural lashes, and for lashes that are naturally thinner.

The thinner profiles of flat lash extensions create what’s called the ‘eyeliner effect’ which contours the lash line. They also give you a more dramatic and textured look when compared to classic lashes.

Using flat lashes, will also give you better retention and will give the lashes more volume. Their curves hug the natural lashes closely, creating a better, firmer bond. All of this without having extra weight on your natural lashes!

Speaking of the bonding point between flat lash extensions and natural lashes, another difference the flat lash has when compared to regular lash extensions is that it can only be placed on either the natural lash’s top or bottom, while regular ones can be adapted to the top, side or bottom.

There’s also the “super flat lash” to speak of, which is 75 percent lighter than standard mink ones with more retention time. There’s also the double volume effect which is certainly something worth consideration before purchasing.

How they are used

Flat lashes need only a tiny amount of glue, but they require a specific application procedure which must be strictly followed to achieve the best results. Due to their unique base shape, flat lashes can only be placed on the natural lashes’ top or bottom, and not at the sides, unlike some conventional lashes.

They can be used as a full set on their own, but can also be used to achieve a fuller-looking set of lashes. They increase volume, but be aware that flat lashes have a high-gloss finish, compared to regular classic lashes.

Have some fun playing around using flat lashes as spikes in your volume sets. You will be surprised at the end with the results.

When to use flat lashes

Flat lashes have a specific purpose and use, which is why the question of when to use flat flashes is so important.

They are great for clients with thin natural lashes who are looking for that “mascara effect”. This is also the same reason why a client does not want to use thicker lashes but wants to have a dramatic look anyway.

Also, they are useful if you just don’t know how to create volume fans yet and would like to get more than just a natural-looking set. With the help of flat lashes, it will give the look of a thicker lash line. The “wet” effect is also achievable by using flat lashes.

These lashes also come up in discussion when we talk about creating a better bond. Since the flat base points to a larger, wider surface area, flat lash extensions bond better with natural lashes.

Lastly, flat lashes are less heavy. Lighter weight means less strain on the natural lash and clients will feel more comfortable wearing them.

Essentially, the question of when to use flat lashes can best be answered by pointing to the benefits they offer. Each client has their own look and preferences. So just like any type of lash extension, the best time to use flat lashes comes down to the client’s preference, natural state of their eyelashes and facial shape.

We do feel that flat lashes seem to have their own uniqueness and individuality, and this in turn means that it will take all due attention to apply them properly. When used correctly, volume and texture enhancements won’t be as far away as it might seem at first!
